Crispy Fried Onions

  • 2 onions - thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk - substitute 1 1/2 cups milk with 2 tablespoons lemon juice added
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Canola oil for frying

Method

Crispy Fried Onions

  • Place the onions in the buttermilk for at least one hour.
  • Combine the dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
  • Heat about 1/4 cup oil to a high temperature in a wok or frying pan.
  • Grab a handful of onions, throw into the flour mixture, shake off any excess and fry until golden brown.
  • Repeat until all the onions are used.
