Mrs. Winterbottom's Chocolate Cake

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk

Method

Mrs. Winterbottom's Chocolate Cake

  • Preheat oven to 180oC (160oC fan bake). Line an 18cm x 28cm cake tin with baking paper.
  • In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
  • In a separate bowl beat together the oil, sugar, vanilla, and eggs. Then beat in the milk.
  • Carefully beat half the wet mixture into the dry mixture, then repeat with the remaining half.
  • Pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
  • Leave to cool completely, then ice with chocolate frosting.
