This is my trial apple crumble for our soon to be launched online kids club. It was so good that I wanted to share it with you.

For the cake

  • 5 apples - peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 & 1/2 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of caster sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon each: cinnamon, nutmeg
  • 1 & 1/3 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 120g butter - finely diced
  • Cream or ice cream for serving

Apple preparation

  • Place the apples, water, caster sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg in a pot and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5-8 minutes or until just soft. Drain off any excess liquid
  • Tip the cooked apple into a pie dish
  • Preheat oven to 180oC (160cC fan bake)

To make the crumble

  • Place the oats, brown sugar, flour and butter into a bowl
  • Use your fingers to break up the lumps of butter until crumbs form
  • Sprinkle the crumble over the apples and cook for 35-40 minutes or until the crumble is golden brown
  • Serve with ice cream or cream
