A very popular Chinese dish using very few ingredients.
Ingredients
For the pork chops
- 4 pork chops
- Cooking oil, for frying
For the char siu marinade
- ⅓ cup char siu sauce
- ⅓ cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons mirin or sake
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 cloves garlic — crushed
- ½ teaspoon five spice powder
Method
For the char siu pork chops
- To make the Char Siu Marinade, whisk all the ingredients in a bowl or jug.
- Place the chops in a dish or snap-lock bag, add half the marinade and turn to coat. Refrigerate for 1 hour or overnight if time allows.
- . Set aside the remaining Char Siu Marinade to use for basting.
- When ready to cook, preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan bake).
- Heat a little oil in a large ovenproof pan over a medium heat. Sear the chops until browned all over.
- Brush the reserved marinade over the chops and transfer the pan to the oven for 10 minutes until the pork is caramelised and cooked through.
- Leave to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
