Ingredients

For the pork chops

  • 4 pork chops
  • Cooking oil, for frying

For the char siu marinade

  • ⅓ cup char siu sauce
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin or sake
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic — crushed
  • ½ teaspoon five spice powder

Method

For the char siu pork chops

  • To make the Char Siu Marinade, whisk all the ingredients in a bowl or jug.
  • Place the chops in a dish or snap-lock bag, add half the marinade and turn to coat. Refrigerate for 1 hour or overnight if time allows.
  • . Set aside the remaining Char Siu Marinade to use for basting.
  • When ready to cook, preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan bake).
  • Heat a little oil in a large ovenproof pan over a medium heat. Sear the chops until browned all over.
  • Brush the reserved marinade over the chops and transfer the pan to the oven for 10 minutes until the pork is caramelised and cooked through.
  • Leave to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
