Cheese, Bacon and Maple Scones

The combination of flavours in these scones is absolutely scrumptious. If you don’t have buttermilk you can stir 1½ tablespoons lemon juice or white vinegar into 1½ cups milk and use that instead.

Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 200g bacon – diced and cooked
- 1 cup grated tasty cheese
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 170g butter – grated
- 1½ cups buttermilk
- ¼ cup maple syrup
Method
- Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Combine the flour, bacon, cheese, baking powder, baking soda, garlic salt and butter in a large bowl.
- Whisk the buttermilk and maple syrup in a medium bowl. Add to the flour mixture and mix to form a dough.
- Tip onto a lightly floured work surface and knead 3–4 times until it comes together.
- Using a rolling pin, roll out to a 3cm thickness.
- Cut out into 12 rounds and arrange on the prepared tray.
- Chill in the freezer for 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 220°C (200°C fan bake).
- Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown.
