Fried Onions Rings

These crispy onions go superbly well rested on top of a steak!

Ingredients

  • 2 onions – sliced thinly
  • 2 cups buttermilk – or 2 tablespoons lemon juice mixed with 2 cups milk – leave for 10 minutes
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Canola oil for deep frying

Method

  • Place the onions in the buttermilk for at least one hour.
  • Combine the dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
  • In a frying pan or wok, heat 1cm oil to a high temperature.
  • Grab a handful of onions, throw into the flour mixture, shake off any excess and fry until golden brown.
  • Repeat until all the onions are used.
