These crispy onions go superbly well rested on top of a steak!
Ingredients
- 2 onions – sliced thinly
- 2 cups buttermilk – or 2 tablespoons lemon juice mixed with 2 cups milk – leave for 10 minutes
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons garlic salt
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Canola oil for deep frying
Method
- Place the onions in the buttermilk for at least one hour.
- Combine the dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
- In a frying pan or wok, heat 1cm oil to a high temperature.
- Grab a handful of onions, throw into the flour mixture, shake off any excess and fry until golden brown.
- Repeat until all the onions are used.
