I love making my own liqueurs – somehow they always taste that bit more special, and they make great gifts.



For the home-made coffee liqueur

  • 2½ cups strong hot coffee
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2¼ cups rum
  • ½ vanilla bean — halved lengthwise


For the home-made coffee liqueur

  • Place the coffee and sugar in a jug or bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Leave to cool.
  • Add the rum and vanilla bean and stir well.
  • Cover and leave to sit for 2–3 weeks in a cool place.
  • Strain to remove the vanilla bean, then pour into bottles.
