This handy side dish brings a fantastic combination of flavours to a meal at any time of year.



For the roasted honey kūmara

  • 800g kūmara — peeled and cut into 2cm pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Zest of ½ an orange — finely grated
  • ½ teaspoon chilli flakes
  • Garlic salt and ground black pepper, to taste


For the roasted honey kūmara

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan bake). Line a baking tray with baking paper
  • To prepare the kūmara, whisk the oil, honey, orange zest and chilli flakes in a large bowl.
  • Add the kūmara and mix to coat well.
  • Spread out in a single layer on the prepared tray and season with garlic salt and pepper.
  • Bake for 20–30 minutes or until the kūmara is golden brown and slightly caramelised.
