Ingredients

Deviled Sausages

  • 8 pork sausages
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 onion - diced
  • 1 apple - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic - crushed
  • 400g can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup barbeque sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Garlic salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Pinch cayenne (optional but recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon cornflour mixed with water to thicken the sauce if needed

Method

Devilled Sausages

  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Brown the sausages on all sides - set aside.
  • To the same pan, add the onion and cook for several minutes. Add in the apple and cook for an additional two minutes. Stir through the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add in all the other ingredients, including the sausages and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • If the sauce needs thickening, add in the cornflour slurry and simmer until thickened.
